Ice Baby Ice - GO AWAY!

It has been quite an interesting week around here. Saturday started out with Cheri's last basketball game. Paul, Anna, Charlie, and I went to cheer our cheerleader on. After the game, Paul, Cheri, Anna, and I headed up to Auburn Hills to see my beloved Reba with George Strait and LeeAnn Womak. I missed most of LeeAnn because we were late and the potty line was...you know. Reba was AMAZING, as always. George was good, but I only knew the songs from the radio because I don't own a George CD. He was still good. I was hoping Reba would come back out at the end but I'm sure she was off on her plane before George was halfway through. The concert was 4 1/2 hours long! I would have listened to Reba that long, but poor Paul was having back issues so it probably seemed twice as long. Then we get out and can't remember where we parked the car so we wandered around the lot for half an hour. We found the car and I drove the loooonnnnngggg drive home. I am so grateful it was Saturday because Sunday the shit hit the fan.

Cheri stayed overnight and did her laundry Sunday and we got in the car to take her back to Adrian about 5:45 - big mistake. The ice storm was just starting and what should have been an hour and a half round trip ended up being a 3 hour drive. I couldn't go over 35 or my car would go sideways. I made it safely and went to the barn at 9 to feed the horses. The poor guys had ice in their manes and tails. I brought them in, brushed them, gave them double grain, and dried them with paper towels. I should have let them in when I left but I had no idea it would be that bad. They were happy to be inside and dry. They actually could have come in their stalls but for some reason did not.

For those of you that do not know, we have a new horse. He is actually boarding at our barn and one of the girls at my high school owns him. Her name is Holly and his name is Cupid. My Aunt Kathy called and Sherry (Scott and Jen's aunt) was looking for a home for her horse. We found a wonderful new mom for him and he is Jimmy Choo's new buddy. There is an amazing picture below of them getting to know one another. They are still trying to figure out who the alpha horse it but they will work it out. That is what horses do.

We lost our power that night and didn't have it back until Tuesday - and we were lucky! So many people were out of power all week. Trees were broken all over the place from the weight of the ice. It was like nothing I have ever seen in my life. It looked like a tornado went through Bedford. School was out all week. The high school got power back Thursday but they had problems with the boilers. Poor Paul spent the night there trying to get it up and running. Finally, the schools were ready to go and bamm! - another snowstorm Friday with about 7 inches of blowing snow. We have been hit hard this year. Someone said we had about 11 or 12 snow days this year, I lost count. I think we may be doing some make-up days this year.

A friend had a 45 foot tree fall on her house and a student's house caught fire. We had a generator and were lucky, though I was losing my mind by Tuesday. I tried to remember we were safe and warm. I still know that I would have made a crappy pioneer woman. I like my modern conveniences, spoiled brat that I am.

As horrible as this storm was, Anna got some great pictures of it. I posted some of my favorites. I also have a picture of Charlie, Anna, and Cheri at Cheri's game and, of course, my Reba.

Hope you are all staying warm and spring gets here soon!
Love Ya,
Cindy

A wonderful Saturday in Michigan!

I'm SICK of winter!!!!

Ok, the only one in our family that is digging this weather is Romeo. If we had a fur coat like he does then we would probably want to play all day in the snow too. He dives into the snow and eats it, runs like a bunny, and doesn't want to come in. Crazy beast! We have had more snow than we have had in years. I am so over winter it isn't even funny. I'm your beach bunny, short wearing, swimming pool kinda girl. I live in the wrong end of the United States.

Anna is getting a kick out of how we make such a big deal about snow out here. She said she gets several feet of snow in Austria and they NEVER call off school. We get snow days, fog days, ice days, and cold days. I guess we are just spoiled Americans. I'm not complaining about the days off (I only worked 2 days last week), but I'm getting to the point that I would rather work and get closer to summer. I'm longing for working in the garden, playing with the pony, and taking my pups on the trail. I am also really sick of running on the treadmill. As my runs get longer, I am wanting to burn up some outside trails. The treadmill is BORING!

Paul is reffing soccer and basketball now. On his days off he is working on our master bath. Tiling the shower starts this weekend! When that shower is up and running I am closing the other bath for a few days to do some renovations on it. I want to get this inside stuff done so we can work on the yard when the weather turns. I am also giving the barn an overhaul this spring. Now that Charlie and Clint will have houses, they can take some of their stuff (crossing fingers). Clint and Amanda are moving into our old house on Forest Valley this spring. Hopefully they will stay there if Amanda can find a job around here. She is graduating in April and is already putting feelers out for jobs. There are lots of changes going on in education and I don't know what the job market will be like. I have confidence she will find something close by.

I am still teaching Zumba and taking a ton of training classes to learn new dances. I have taken Master classes and am taking an advanced certification in March. I am going to Orlando in July for a Zumba conference and will become certified in Zumba toning. I will probably start teaching that in the fall. I am in training for my half marathon and that is going well, at least on the treadmill. Except for a slight cold, I have been staying healthy. I am grateful for that after the rough recovery from my gallbladder surgery. I'm looking forward to a better 2011. We had a rough end to 2010.

My kids lost their Grandpa Anderson a few weeks ago. Poor kids have been through so many losses in the past few years. I hope we are done with that for a while. All that is left on their Dad's side is their Aunt Sue and her family. They are all handling it well but it isn't easy. They could use a prayer of two if you would please.

Not much else going on around the farm. We are just holding tight for some warmer weather. Until then, we will be dreaming of warm, sunny days and cuddling by the fire. Stay warm and we love you!
